Editing
Good editing helps you say what you really mean. It helps you say it clearly, powerfully and effectively—in a way that moves people to action and gets the job done. It can even help you turn junk into things.
Pentacle Productions can help you decide what type of editing you need. It could be some or all of the following:
- substantive and structural editing to reorganize documents, eliminate repetition and ensure that the flow of information is logical
- stylistic editing to clarify meaning, eliminate jargon and polish the language
- fact checking to confirm the accuracy of facts and quotations
- rewriting to present information in a clear, direct, easy‑to‑read format
- writing new material to “connect the pieces” of restructured documents and ensure smooth transitions between sections
- copy editing for grammar, usage, punctuation and spelling, and to check for internal consistency of facts and formatting
- proofreading to ensure that the final, formatted, edited copy is error free and conforms with the required spelling and style standards
- style sheet development
Style Sheets
In all our projects, we follow the dictionary, style and usage preferences of our clients.
We’re familiar with the requirements of a number of standard style guides, including The Canadian Press Stylebook, The Chicago Manual of Style and the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
For every project (unless it’s a teensy one), we also develop a project-specific style sheet that outlines hyphenation, spelling or capitalization conventions that aren’t covered in standard or in‑house style guides.
